Half Term family activities in Salcombe and South Devon

Whether it's a day trip, a long weekend or you're heading down our way for an October half Term week or Autumn, here's our pick of the fab family activities in Salcombe & the South Hams you can look forward!

1) History comes alive at Salcombe Maritime Museum

Salcombe Maritime Museum A treasure trove of models, paintings, photographs and artefacts and plenty to amuse and engage younger visitors including hands-on displays, models and pirates' treasure, in the 'young sailors' corner'. Open daily until October 31st ;10.30am – 12.30pm & 2.30pm – 4.30pm. Adults: £2.00, Young people under 18: 50p, Children under 12: free

2) Perfect places for creative kids

Paper Bird Island is a relaxed art space in Salcombe, where kids can get creative decorating animal shapes and hanging birds with glitter, colouring pens, paint and crayons. Paper Bird Island also runs regular workshops, so it's worth checking to see what's on when you visit Salcombe.

Kidz & Co Soft Play Café is another fab place for your little ones, whatever the weather! Their soft play area is packed with fun for 0 to 7 year olds and they serve food all day long, seven days a week 9am-5pm.

3) South West Coast Path Walking Holidays

We knew it already of course but the South West Coast Path has recently clinched the top spot in a survey to find Britain's best-loved walk!

So whether you've heard of the South West Coastal Path already or you've previously experienced it's sheer rugged-coastline beauty, take your kids on an invigorating escapade to experience our incredible coastline and rolling Devon landscapes – find out more in our South West Coast Path Guide.

4) Feel the heat

South Devon Chilli Farm is a must-visit place when in the area. Free Entry, Free samples every day, free tours (seasonal), a wonderful shop and Cafe, and an amazing Display tunnel (usually open, May – Dec)…need we say more?!

5) Ice Cream

If you have little ones in tow though then head to the amazing Salcombe Dairy for a dollop or two of ice cream you will NOT forget!  The only thing to add is that the honeycombe is divine

6) Piggy Fun at Pennywell Farm

Pigs, ponies and plenty of pumpkins will be kicking off the October Half Term fun at Pennywell Farm (Mon 23 to Sun 29 Oct). There is an action packed day lined up with hundreds of friendly animals to meet, a different hands on activity or show every half hour and four farm rides included in the admission price.

7) Forest & Beach Adventures

From Half Term Forest Days with Archery or Mallet Making to their Canoe Adventure Day, Forest & Beach Adventures have it all going on for your kids this October Half Term. Their daily camps mean you can drop your children (primary aged to 14years+) off for the day, knowing they are in safe hands having the time of their lives, learning new skills and making new friends in our great outdoors.

8) Discover the rejuvenator!

National Trust property Overbecks is one of our favourite family activities in Salcombe for young adventurers or keen gardeners who want to be inspired and excited. Open until 29 October 2017 11am-5pm.

9) Marty the monster is back!

Come and meet Marty the friendly monster in Marty's Monster Manor at Woodlands Theme Park with mysterious surprises around every eerie corner. There's plenty more pumpkin and ghostly ghoul fun going on sohave fun during Halloween and half term week at Woodlands!

10) Swallows & Amazons…time on the water for all ages

Salcombe Dinghy Sailing is a family run business with a dedicated team that's all about making sure you have the best experience possible. Ross and Zoe Crook have a combined 27 years experience in the Sailing industry and are on the water from March to November everyday (10-5pm) - 07809 556457.

If you fancy walking on waves then Bantham Surfing Academy is for you. Their supervised surfing sessions & Kids club are run by highly experienced and British Surfing Association qualified instructors.

Discovery Surf School is another option and family run in the beautiful setting of Bigbury on Sea. Their Discovery Surf Campsare legendary among parents, taking place 10am-4pm Monday to Thursdays where you can drop your children off in the morning, allowing you to take some time for yourselves whicle the kids has a totally rad time on the board dude!

11) Target practice at Salcombe Shooting School

Salcombe Shooting School gives you the opportunity to find out and test your skills on the new Air Rifle Target Range. Once you get 'zeroed in' there are a series of interesting animal knock down targets and the more challenging moving target system to see how good you really are, all in a safe controlled environment under the supervision on an Instructor at all times. No experience needed and fun for the whole family!
