Follow on Google News | McCarthy and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston Celebrate Topping Out of The Glassell School of ArtCampus expansion makes MFAH one of the largest art campuses in U.S.
By: McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. To celebrate the construction milestone, more than 300 people gathered at the site of the school and attendees were treated to a catered lunch as they listened to remarks from Gary Tinterow, director of the MFAH; Jim Stevenson, President of McCarthy's Houston Division; and Chris McVoy (This may change now to Steven Holl) of Steven Holl Architects. Those in attendance included McCarthy's 175 craft workers, McCarthy's executives, team members from Steven Holl Architects, MFAH leadership as well as friends of the MFAH. Located in the heart of Houston's museum district, the Glassell School of Art will serve more than 7,000 students each year and will include a Studio School for adults; a Junior School with classes for students ages three- to-18; and the distinguished Core Residency Program for postgraduate artists and critics. The school will link to two existing gallery buildings and a sculpture garden, as part of a redevelopment of the 14-acre, Susan and Fayez S. Sarofim Campus. McCarthy broke ground on the new facility in late 2015 and it is expected to be complete in the Spring of 2018. "McCarthy is pleased to be constructing such an architecturally interesting and important project that will offer a lasting legacy to Houston. This project has been challenging and the structure alone is a work of art," said McCarthy Houston Division President Jim Stevenson. "We are excited to reach this topping out point and looking forward to the next phases of crafting the Glassell School of Art." McCarthy has a long-standing history of building complex, architecturally significant projects in the entertainment and arts industry. In addition to the MFAH, McCarthy's Texas portfolio of entertainment and institutional projects includes the award-winning AT&T Performing Arts Center Dee and Charles Wyly Theatre in Dallas, the Dallas City Performance Hall and the recently topped out Kinder High School for Visual and Performing Arts in Houston, among others. ### About McCarthy McCarthy Building Companies, Inc.
