Flagler Humane Society Receives $28,273 Grant From Petsmart Charities®
Grant awarded to support daily shelter operations and Flagler's pets in need thrive
Flagler Humane Society's shelter operations grant is designed to enhance the health, safety and well-being of the animals that come into and housed at the shelter through mid-2018.
"The PetSmart Charities grant will be used to offset the cost of vaccines for animals that enter the shelter as strays or surrendered by their owners for an entire year," said Amy Carotenuto, Flagler Humane Society Executive Director. "Stray animals don't have vaccination records so they receive their shots to keep them and the animals housed at the shelter safe. Having a year's worth of vaccines already paid for as we seek to do more spay and neuter surgeries and to expand our wellness clinic in 2018 will be an extreme help to Flagler Humane Society."
In animal welfare, funding for general shelter operations can be scarce. That's why PetSmart Charities identified this as an area of great need to its adoption partners and grantees and developed this new grant category.
"The Shelter Operations Grant is part of our newly expanded mission at PetSmart Charities is to find lifelong, loving homes for all pets by supporting programs and thought leadership that bring people and pets together," said David Haworth, DVM, Ph.D., President of PetSmart Charities. "This provides funding a shelter-based program that will help improve adoptions, reduce pet's length of stay and strengthen shelter infrastructure."
Shelter Operations is just one of PetSmart Charities' ten grant categories designed to support animal welfare organizations and nonprofits as part of their newly expanded mission to find lifelong loving homes for all pets by supporting programs that bring people and pets together. Funding from PetSmart Charities supports best practices that help pets thrive in a shelter environment until they find their forever family and offers funding for shelter-based programs that improve adoptions, reduce pets' length of stay and strengthen shelter infrastructure.
