Identification and Brief Treatment Approaches for Substance Use Disorders

HAUPPAUGE, N.Y. - Oct. 9, 2017 - PRLog -- It is estimated that Substance Use Disorders (SUD) have a U.S. societal cost of approximately $276 billion per year, which includes lost productivity and increased healthcare costs. In 2013, 22.7 million people age 12 and older had a SUD and out of those individuals, only 3 million received treatment. There is a great need to find and offer treatment to these individuals. This workshop will review how to identify, diagnose, and treat SUD with current, evidenced- based practices that can be integrated into your practice. Substance abuse has been shown in many studies to be a risk factor for medication non-adherence, hospital admission and poor health outcomes. This training will provide an overview of substance use, interview techniques to differentiate psychotic disorders with comorbid substance use from substance-induced psychotic disorders, and current treatment approaches for substance use disorders.
