AMMAN, Jordan - Oct. 4, 2017 - PRLog -- through a statement issued on Monday on its social media outlets. JCLA confirmed that it is looking forward to the courts' ruling on the dispute over the legality of providing legal aid to the poor and vulnerable in the country.

JCLA confirmed its complete confidence in the Jordanian legal system and expressed that it will fully comply with the ruling of the court on this matter. JCLA further clarified that it is a non-profit, non-governmental organisation that is legally registered with the Jordanian Societies Registry.

JCLA clarified that its legal aid services are provided through contracted practicing legal consultants who are registered with the BAR Association in Jordan. JCLA's mission is to provide poor and vulnerable people with access to justice services. JCLA's services exist in order to empower poor and vulnerable segments of society to achieve their rights under the law. The BAR Association has made clear its position towards legal aid providers in the country for years now. To this end, JCLA expressed that the complaint has come at an opportune time to put this dispute to an end, once and for all.

Due to poverty, the demand for legal aid in the country continues to increase even with the existence of legal aid providers such as JCLA. JCLA's services are provided based on an eligibility criteria that guarantees serving only those who cannot hire a lawyer themselves.  According to the Department of Statistics, over 17,000 people a year are unable to access their legal rights due to their financial difficulties. This gap weakens the public's trust in the justice system and the rule of law in the country. JCLA believes that national organizations must combine forces in order to achieve justice for all those who seek it, rather than taking a territorial competitive approach that excludes service providers.

JCLA concluded by stressing that it will continue to serve poor and vulnerable people, in cooperation with government and civil society partners, in order to institutionalize legal aid in Jordan as it aspires to realize a society where everyone has equal access to justice.
