NAPBS Announces Record-Breaking 2017 Annual Conference
In Orlando, Fla., a record-breaking 817 background screening professionals gathered for three days of educational programming focused around the theme, "Creating Magical Connections."
NAPBS 2017-18 Chair Scott Hall said, "This conference was an important opportunity for us to create more connections within our profession. With each of us committed to leading the way in excellence and then sharing our knowledge and experiences with others, our association continues to work to keep our members operating at the highest level."
Education is a heavy focus of the NAPBS conferences with 29 educational sessions presented on a variety of topics affecting the industry ranging from strategic business sessions, futuristic technology, legal issues, nuts and bolts "how-to" programs, international screening techniques, compliance guidelines, and what's on the horizon for consumer reporting agencies, to name just a few. NAPBS offered educational tracks to assist attendees wishing to focus on a topic for intensive study: Legal/Compliance, Business, International, Drug Testing and Tenant Screening.
The keynote session "Lessons in Leadership, Management and Customer Service. YOU Can Create Disney Magic Too!" featured Lee Cockerell, Lee Cockerell LLC. As the former Executive Vice President of Operations for the Walt Disney World® Resort, Cockerell shared his insights including understanding customer and employee expectations, excellence, career success, and the difference between management and leadership.
Keeping up to date on the latest compliance and legal matters is of the pyuac utmost importance to the profession. NAPBS was pleased to welcome back attendee favorite, Pam Devata of Seyfarth Shaw LLP, who presented a General Session on hot topics for CRAs. Devata, along with Esther Slater McDonald, Seyfarth Shaw LLP; and Courtney Stieber, Seyfarth Shaw LLP, also presented a breakout session on Tuesday morning providing insight into End-User FAQs.
For the 2017 NAPBS Conference, NAPBS supported the Sue Weaver CAUSE through donations on behalf of speakers and also hosted a charity golf tournament which raised $18,000 to benefit the Sue Weaver CAUSE, a nonprofit organization advocating for the proper use of criminal background checks.
Upcoming NAPBS events include the 2018 Mid-Year Legislative & Regulatory Conference held April 15-17, 2018, in Washington, D.C., and the 2018 Annual Conference in Baltimore, Md., Oct. 7-9, 2018.
