Virginia State University Concert Choir to perform at Mount Vernon-Saturday,September 30

PETERSBURG, Va. - Sept. 25, 2017 - PRLog -- The Virginia State University Concert Choir begins its 2017-18 performance season with its annual performance at the the historic Slave Commemoration and Wreath Laying Ceremony at Mount Vernon, the historic home of George Washington on Saturday, September 30 at 11:00 a.m.  Regularly conducted by Johnnella Lucas Edmonds, Director of Choral Activities, the choir will be led by guest conductor Patrick D. McCoy, a 2000 VSU Music Alumnus.

For this annual appearance, the University Concert Choir will also perform alongside the Howard University Choir under the direction of Dr. Eric Poole. The program is a collaboration between Mount Vernon and the Black Women United for Action in remembering the slaves who lived at Mount Vernon with a special program and wreathlaying ceremony at the Slave Memorial.

Patrick D. McCoy has been rehearsing the University Concert Choir since August and in addition to his guest conducting the concert choir, he is currently a new adjunct faculty member, teaching applied voice in the Department of Music.
