By: United Premier Soccer League Based in Lincoln, R.I., Lincoln Club Futebol will play in the UPSL's Northeast Conference. United Premier Soccer League Commissioner Yan Skwara said, "Lincoln Club becoming a member of the UPSL is a major milestone. Not only is the UPSL Northeast Conference growing with quality teams, but having Lincoln Club means that there are now UPSL teams in 20 states across the USA. Lincoln Club is also club celebrating 25 years of its own history this year, so this a moment of pride for both the league and the club. We wish Lincoln Club the best of success as it prepares for the 2018 Spring Season." Lincoln Club is operated by Rhode Island native Jonathan DeLemos, a long-time member and former player for the club. DeLemos, 30, has been the President and Head Coach of the club for three years. Lincoln Club Futebol President and Head Coach Jonathan DeLemos said, "We all know the risks but even with the demise of the CSL we took advantage, and took a huge step as a club. We got the best of the local college talent in the area, put a great team together and had a phenomenal year. We established a good fan base that we hadn't had, with 200-300 fans per game, and improved the organization in a major way. We've really started something great here, so it's great to see the UPSL has really taken over and given us something to keep it going. We're very excited that the UPSL has come in, and I feel we can really, really grow." Lincoln Club has a deep history playing in local leagues in Rhode Island before DeLemos made the decision to create a Pro Development team in 2016. "In New England, the club has always played in leagues against other Portuguese social clubs, and there were big leagues years ago," DeLemos said. "As this (playing in the UPSL) takes off for us we're looking at putting in a youth program, get an academy going and doing clinics so that we have a youth base." The team is exploring venue options in compliance with the UPSL's Minimum Standards. The club will soon announce its upcoming game schedule.
