PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Sept. 15, 2017 - PRLog -- The Horror Writers Association (HWA), the premier organization of writers and publishers of horror and dark fantasy, announces the Second Annual Ann Radcliffe Academic Conference. All scholars and academics are invited to submit presentation abstracts related to horror studies for consideration. Select proposals will be presented at the Third Annual StokerCon®, March 1 – 4, 2018 held at the historic Biltmore Hotel in Providence, Rhode Island ( ( )

The Ann Radcliffe Academic Conference in 2017 was a tremendous success and saw many presentations covering various aspects of horror studies. It is the goal with the second conference to continue the dialogue of academic analysis of horror. Hence, the co-chairs, Michele Brittany and Nicholas Diak, are looking for completed research or work-in-progress projects that can be presented to expand the scholarship on various facets of horror that proliferates in: Art, Cinema, Comics, Literature, Music, Poetry, Television, and Video Games

HWA invites papers that take an interdisciplinary approach to their subject matter and can apply a variety of lenses and frameworks, including, but not limited to, the following:

§  Fandom and fan studies

§  Film studies

§  Folklore

§  Gender/LGBT studies

§  Historic analysis

§  Interpretations

§  Linguistic

§  Literature studies

§  Media and communications

§  Media Sociology

§  Modernity/Postmodernity

§  Mythological

§  Psychological

§  Racial studies

§  Semiotics

§  Theoretical (Adorno, Barthes, Baudrillard, Dyer, Gerbner, etc.)

§  Transmedia

Interested candidates should send a 250 – 300 word abstract on the intended topic, a bibliography and resume to A ( by November 27, 2017. Responses will be sent by end of December 2017. Presentation time consideration is 15 minutes to allow for a Q &A period. There are no honorariums for presenters because this is an academic conference. But there is an opportunity for HWA support: Further, the co-chairs are exploring the possibilities of publishing a volume of presentations

The Ann Radcliffe Academic Conference is part of HWA's Outreach Program. Membership to the HWA is not required to submit or present; however, registration to StokerCon® 2018 is required to present.
