BOCA RATON, Fla. - April 20, 2017 - PRLog -- Yom Hashoah or Holocaust Remembrance Day is observed as Israel's day of commemoration for the approximately six million Jews who perished in the Holocaust as a result of the actions carried out by Nazi Germany and its accessories, and for the Jewish Resistence in that period. In Israel, it  is a national memorial day.

In the United states, this day is marked by Jewish institutions, organizations and families alike across the country. At B'nai Torah Congregation in Boca Raton, an annual ceremony is held where actual survivors participate. Beginning at 9:30am, the synagogue will host a breakfast for survivors and their families - free of charge. Dialogue is facilitated that allows those attending to share a bit of their "survival" story, or open up about a particular memory, or just speak from their heart and represent a family  member who did not survive but showed great bravery and/or heroism.

At 10:30am, immediately following the breakfast, a very poignant and impactful processional will take place where students of B'nai Torah's Mirochnick Religious School will escort survivors through the main sanctuary, up to the Bimah to light a candle. As these brave survivors are escorted down the center aisle, music plays and their names and the name of the student will be announced, and the story of how they survived will be narrated by Rabbi David Englander.

Guest speaker, Zelda Fuksman, Executive Vice President of the Child Survivors/Hidden Children of the Holocaust of Palm Beach County, will also make a presentation.

The program is generously sponsored by B'nai Torah member, Lynn Graber, who explains "My late, beloved mother, Sari Singer, was an Auschwitz survivor.  Her life, her strength, her devotion to Judaism,  are pillars in my life.  Her funeral was on Yom Hashoah in 2014.  We have chosen to honor her life by sponsoring the Yom Hashoah annual programming at B'nai Torah Congregation.  May we continue to honor and remember not just the victims, but the survivors of the Holocaust."
