April 6, 2017 - PRLog -- The final resting place for old shoes need not be in a landfill anymore.  With a touch of creativity and environmental consciousness, old shoes can be brought to life as brand new artworks.  Running from today (7 April 2017) until 4 July 2017 at MTR Sheung Wan Station and Sai Wan Ho Station, a new "Art in MTR" exhibition entitled "Create Your Own Shoes Competition and Exhibition 2016" showcases 41 prize-winning and shortlisted entries by secondary and tertiary school students, as well as 16 creative shoe designs by professional designers from different sectors.

"We strive to promote eco-friendly and sustainable living through integrating environmental awareness with art and design in the community.  Unlike paper or textiles, shoes are relatively more difficult to recycle as they are composed of a wide variety of materials.  Through organising this competition, we hope to unleash students' potential and inspire their creativity to transform old and unwanted objects into wonderful art pieces," said Ms Rebecca Leung, Chairlady of Hong Kong Green Designers Association, the organiser of the competition and exhibition.

"MTR Corporation has been making every effort to foster sustainable development and energy efficiency in an increasingly urbanised world. We are contributing to the eco-friendly community through the delivery of efficient, low carbon railway services in the most sustainable way possible," said Ms Linda So, Corporate Affairs Director of MTR Corporation.  "This exhibition not only aligns with our mission to protect the environment and provide a sustainable railway for future generations but also with our dedication to enhancing passengers' life journeys through art," she added.

MTR Corporation offers space at different MTR stations for temporary art exhibitions under the "Art in MTR" programme to promote artistic talent and the public's appreciation of art. Interested artists and organisations may call the MTR Hotline on 2881 8888 to enquire, or submit their proposals directly to the MTR Corporation.
