Christine Comaford believes that the most successful leaders possess certain behavior characteristics called SmartTribe Accelerators. Leaders who effectively utilize these accelerators are able to guide their companies through inflection points, stimulate growth, and foster high engagement. The five SmartTribe Accelerators are:

1. Focus. When creating a SmartTribe, a leader must first assess where his or her team currently is and where it must go. Being present is the main component of a focused leader, and one that can keep a team emotionally engaged and grounded. Focus also means ensuring everyone is working on more High Value Activities versus Low Value ones.

2. Clarity. Leaders hoping to create SmartTribes must be able to articulate company visions and have their messages understood by all team members. An emotionally engaging and clear mission, vision, and set of values can engage, enroll, align, and propel any team into a SmartTribe state.

3. Accountability. Being accountable is essential for leaders and their teams, and can be accomplished through weekly tracking reports and needle-mover tasks that show growth in any capacity no matter how small. SmartTribes know they can count on one another to deliver on promises and continuously move the needle.

4. Influence. Leaders who have a positive influence on others are able to understand, empower, and motivate them. They are able to connect with anyone to gain perspective and mutual understanding. SmartTribe teams feel that their leaders are most influential when they are collaborative and flexible with others and can "speak the language" of the recipients they want to motivate.

5. Sustainable results. Sustainability in a SmartTribe means team members have enough energy to get consistent results without sacrificing their mental or emotional health. Energy management is essential here.
