Donald Trump: Disruptor-in-Chief: What it means to have a senior rabblerouser at the helm

At great personal risk, I utter the name that cannot be said in polite society, and hazard a guess at the coming American Zeitgeist under President You-Know-Who.

NEW CITY, N.Y. - Jan. 23, 2017 - PRLog -- We know our disruptors. They run companies like Uber, Airbnb or Facebook. People like Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Spike Lee, Woody Allen, Steven Spielberg, Andy Warhol, Mike Tyson, Rhonda Rousey and so on…..

They were all young when they started, generally under the age of 27.

Now we have a 70 -year old flame-throwing, table-upending, mouth-running political newcomer as commander-in-chief: the aging embodiment of the Rebel Without a Cause, except that he looks like the person they were rebelling against, and he has a cause.

What happens when the Empire is the funky one and The Man is the rebel?

One possibility is that everything grinds to a halt, the sky falls and civilization as we know it ends. The child, as they say, is father to the man – at least in the sense of introducing the new ideas that take us into the next generation.

So when the old guy begins ideating while also banging on the walls, it could be a sign. If you are a Democrat or hold dark fantasies, you are probably thinking this is the end of days.

The other possibility is that the world does not end, Trump could succeed and the zeitgeist suddenly change.

But in what ways?

The success of revolutions have always been as George Santayana said, tied to the way they reconnect with the system they were rebelling against. Since the Trump people have been manipulators of the system for a long time, that may not be such a problem.

I'm going to argue that at minimum, we are about to enter the age of ReThink.

Trump may be cocky enough to imitate reckless youth but he is far more experienced in business and in life to make the kind of really stupid mistakes we saw in the Camelot days of the Dotcom era.

So the best interpretation – especially based on the businesspeople he has on his cabinet – is he will to force an essentially pragmatic rethinking of government everywhere.

You may not love it and it may not work as planned, but it is likely to be the driving spirit of the next four years: what is wrong with government as well as everything else, how can run it better and could it earn revenue?

So whatever you do, especially if you have been doing it for a long time, and on the government payroll, you could be challenged.

If you have a startup, it may be time to look at sudden shakeups in the infrastructure and civic management.

In other cases, Trump is likely to have a major effect on the outsourcing industry.

In fact, he is likely to set off a cascading effect of re-imagining work, government.

When your victory is based on tweeting past a hostile media gatekeepers to win then you are likely to forage the digital revolution for ever more power platforms. These could transform government structure as well as every part of traditional life. Some can make the old new again, some will introduce waves of obsolescence but most will open up new frontiers in our universe.
