KINGSTON, Mass. - Jan. 10, 2017 - PRLog -- Sacred Heart School (www.sacredheartkingston.com), a private, Catholic, co-educational school for students in preschool through grade 12, is proud to announce that high school junior Olivia Colombo of Kingston, Massachusetts, has been named a 2017 National Center for Women and Information Technology (NCWIT) Award for Aspirations in Computing (AiC) winner.  She was one of only 50 nationally to achieve this honor.

The NCWIT Award for Aspirations in Computing recognizes high school women who are interested in computing and technology, and encourages them to continue to pursue their passion for computing and technology.  This year's Aspirations Award competition attracted more than 3,500 applications nationally, making this year's selection process the most competitive yet.  Recipients are selected based on their demonstrated interest and achievements in computing, proven leadership ability, academic performance, and plans for post-secondary education.

The NCWIT Award for AiC is sponsored by Apple, Bank of America, Microsoft, Motorola Solutions Foundation, and Symantec.

Colombo has previously been recognized for her achievements in technology.  Most recently, she received an honorable mention in the national THINK (Technology for Humanity guided by Innovation, Networking, and Knowledge) competition, sponsored by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, for "The Green Highway Project:  Electromagnetism and Thermocouple Technology," which demonstrated how highways can be utilized as a new source of renewable energy.  As an eighth grader, Colombo placed 3rd in the national ProjectCSGirls Middle School Computer Science Contest.

"We couldn't be prouder of Olivia!  As a lead student in our STEAM curriculum, she has embraced these opportunities and truly represents the best of Sacred Heart," said Sacred Heart School President Sister Myra Rodgers, CDP.
