MILWAUKEE - Dec. 29, 2016 - PRLog -- Tony Cigno, Milwaukee family dentist, provides tips for preventing sugar from damaging teeth over the holidays.

Greenfield, WI — December 29, 2016 — Wisconsin Dentist Tony Cigno recently published an article titled, "Holiday Dental Care Tips from Milwaukee Dentist Dr. Tony Cigno – Stop Sugar from Damaging Teeth!"

Dr. Cigno starts off the article by acknowledging the abundance of sugary treats available over the holidays at home and work. Yet, he says, "While this is for sure one of the joys of the holidays, unfortunately it can be risky for your teeth!"

He then explains how sugar is harmful to the teeth. Specifically, he outlines why it is not the sugar itself that does the damage but rather, what happens after you consume the sugar.

Dr. Cigno elaborates, "Generally, the mouth has tons of bacteria lurking inside. Yet, most bacteria is harmless and some even prevent "bad" bacteria from causing illness. On the other hand, when certain bacteria meet up with sugar, it's bad news. An acid is created that destroys the enamel of teeth."

Dr. Cigno then goes on to share how this damage makes cavities more likely. But he doesn't leave the reader hopeless either. While too much sugar can be harmful he says, you don't have to avoid it all together.

On the other hand, he adds, there are simple precautions a person can take to make the damage less likely. In the remainder of the article, Dr. Cigno shares some of these such as limiting exposure, drinking sugar drinks through a straw, finishing meals with something high in calcium, and more.
