Follow on Google News | Men to Men Forum: Synergizes !All male audience provides students at North Miami High School an opportunity to talk candidly with male guests.
Our first conference, "Planning for Success", resulted in female teachers and the organizer, Priscilla Dames being asked to leave the rooms. This enabled the students, ages 14-18 to ask sensitive questions and have a candid discussion with their male speakers. The organizer, CEO of Wingspan Seminars, was surprised but delighted. "This meant the students felt very comfortable with their guests and the bonding was evidenced during the closing wrap up session when the boys were chanting after the speakers. The men did an excellent job and I applaud each of them." Too, the all-male forum provides an opportunity for some of the boys to have a male to talk to that may not have that figure in his own home. The Miami-Dade Black Affairs Advisory Board (BAAB) has taken the lead in being speakers for the event. This year added was the 100 Black men, The Florida Freedom Writers, Miami Gardens' Police Explorers and North Miami's Vice-Mayor Alix Desulme sponsored the conference. The "Conversation" Through its Wings on Youth Component, Wingspan Seminars became a Miami-Dade Public School Partner in 2008 and has provided workshops for students and parents and internships for high school and college students. It also provides community service for students. In 2015, it helped to create a school- based peer mediation program. Its president, Priscilla Dames Blake, is the Immediate Past Chairwoman of the Black Affairs Advisory Board. Vice-Mayor Alix Desulme presented Ms. Dames a commendation recognizing her past and current youth projects with North Miami. Daryl Branton, Principal and Andre Gainey hosted the conference at North Miami High School on December 10, 2016.
