Tamil Nadu Solar Energy Strategies Workshop

AUROVILLE, India - Dec. 21, 2016 - PRLog -- Auroville Consulting, a unit of the Auroville Foundation, with expertise in sustainable planning and development, in collaboration with World Resources Institute, a non-profit Global Research Organisation for environmental issues, organised a one day workshop on future strategies for solar energy sector in Tamil Nadu.

The workshop provided a forum for free exchange of ideas on the strategies required to further accelerate the growth of solar energy generation for Tamil Nadu to exceed the solar energy generation targets set for the next five years. It brought together solar developers, consumers, academics, and civil society organizations with senior representatives from the Tamil Nadu Energy Development Agency

(TEDA), Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB), the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC), the Tamil Nadu Government (Energy Department) and the World Bank.

Mr. Jag Mohan Singh Raju, Chairperson, TEDA came to witness the discussions and was very excited about the findings from the workshop. He believed that many working recommendations had been produced during the discussions. Mr. Gireesh Pradhan, Chairperson, CERC who delivered the valedictory address shared the enthusiasm for uptake of Solar and gave his full support to the initiative.

The next steps for Auroville Consulting and World Resources Institute will aim at ground level implementation of the policy by training TANGEDCO engineers and familiarising them with the basics of the State Solar Policy.
