BlackGirl - Pam Copeland, Nycolia "Tye-V" Turman, Rochelle Stuart, When BlackGirl came into the music scene, they were not the norm---three dark skinned girls, rocking short pixie cuts. The ladies, signed to RCA Records, released their debut single, "Krazy" in January of 1994, and it proved to be a Billboard Top 40 hit; but it was their follow-up single, "90's Girl" that would put them on heavy radio rotation internationally. The Teddy Riley produced song peaked at #13 on the R&B charts, and was a top 10 hit in Japan and the UK.
The success of the song landed the ladies a Chrysler car commercial, and a opening act gig for R. Kelly's The 12 Play Very Necessary Tour. The group's debut album was released to modest success, peaking at number #47 on the Billboard R&B album chart. Their third and fourth singles, "Where Did We Go Wrong" and "Let's Do It Again"---a cover of The Staple Singer's 1975 classic--- both becoming top 40 R&B hits. The group was nominated for three Billboard Music Awards and two Soul Train Music Awards in 1994 and 1995, respectively. The group was featured on the star-studded single, "Freedom"off the soundtrack for the 1995 film, Panther. Sang alongside, Aaliyah, En Vogue, Mary J. Blige, Vanessa Williams, and SWV. The song peaked at #18 on the Billboard R&B chart and landed at #45 on the Billboard Hot 100. Soon after, they began performing at benefits and charity concerts with Coolio and Naughty-By-Nature, as of 2016 the ladies have reunited and working on hot new music. It's been 20 plus years since BlackGirl released any music, stay tuned...
The best is yet to come.
