PARKER, Colo. - Dec. 12, 2016 - PRLog -- When Kirsten Painter was home from Kansas State University for Thanksgiving, she learned about the campaign her Mom's Zonta Club was conducting in the Denver metro area—16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence.

The Club's actions inspired Painter to order 50 of the campaign's orange ribbons and with her friends, distribute them across the campus. Painter, who also was Zonta's scholarship recipient this year, says that domestic violence on college campuses is an issue and she wanted to do her part in creating more awareness of the problem.

Zonta Douglas County also created a window display at the Castle Rock parking garage (100 3rd St.). In the window display are stories on four silhouette figures of a father and the three daughters that he killed--a true tale of local domestic violence.

The campaign also features a cartoon woman named Zoe who is the focal point for domestic violence awareness posters put up all around Douglas County. "Zoe" was created by Sharon Cooper, a member of Zonta Douglas County (http://www.zontadouglascounty.org), a women's service organization that works to improve the lives of women and children.

The posters direct people who need help to call 911 if they are in danger, or call the Crisis Center (303-688-8484) to arrange for safety

In addition to participating in the domestic violence awareness activities, Zonta Douglas County gives grants to community groups and scholarships to high school seniors. Its programs are funded primarily through its annual Trivia Night Fundraiser scheduled for April 8, 2017. Teams of six adults compete in eight rounds of mind-bending trivia with cash prizes for the top teams. For more information on the 2017 event, visit www.zontadouglascounty.org.
