By: London Grid for Learning

LONDON - Dec. 9, 2016 - PRLog -- The London Grid for Learning, returning from their 2016 Bett Award win for Primary Digital Content, are this year shortlisted for two of their educational resources in the category Secondary Digital Content for resources Cornerstone Maths and Moovbank (powered by Balletboyz).

Designed and tested by academics, Cornerstone Maths helps teach Key Stage 3 students hard to grasp concepts including linear functions, geometric similarity and patterns and expressions.

Another key facet of the resource is Continuing Professional Development (CPD). Schools currently using Cornerstone Maths report school-wide change in the way teachers approach mathematics education across year groups and as a community.

Also nominated in Secondary Digital Content Moovbank (powered by BalletBoyz) contains high-quality, digital teaching materials for PE, dance and drama teachers filmed in collaboration with the highly renowned BalletBoyz and aiming to make dance accessible to all through lesson plans, tutorials, interviews with choreographers and live-streamed events from the BalletBoyz studio.

Featured on stand D260, educational not-for-profit LGfL will also be showcasing its TRUSTnet offering, set to supercharge the education system for the next generation of digital employees by providing schools with significant internet bandwidth at lower cost. This connection is offered along with the services and content schools require to digitally transform the classroom through LGfL's SuperCloud offering which is designed to support the wider digital transformation of local authorities and the public sector and to complement the services already provided to schools and educational establishments.

Together, TRUSTnet and SuperCloud will facilitate cross-school collaboration and support the use of bandwidth-hungry multimedia, augmented and virtual reality resources to bring learning to life.

Also featured on the stand will be LGfL's newly launched educational resources, including; Developing British Values, the Trust's new KS2-5 resource for PSHE, Citizenship and RE, launched in response to the DfE guidance which states that "Schools should promote the fundamental British values of democracy…"; and Symbol Library, a KS1-4 symbol pack for learners with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and English as an Additional Language (EAL) developed by Widgit and designed to support text by making the meaning clearer and easier to understand.

Coming soon will be compelling real world exemplars of Cyber Security introduced to help KS2-4 learners develop an awareness of the key issues around online protection. All these resources and many more come free with the Trust's TRUSTnet and also LGfL brand broadband packages.

TRUSTnet

Previously only available to schools in the Capital under the LGfL banner, the newly-named TRUSTnet package has been adopted nationwide by over 60 local authorities (LAs), multi academy trusts (MATs) and larger multi academy chains (MACs).  All are now benefiting from LGfL's bulk-buying of internet connectivity and associated software and services, which it estimates will save them £13.5m over a five-year period. Customers include The Metropolitan Borough of Sandwell, Liverpool LA, and also MATs and MACs including Harris, Ark, Future and Step.

Using a superfast, robust and reliable regional network supported by Virgin Media Business, TRUSTnet provides its customers with very high availability. Each school receives a dedicated fibre connection to the premises with the capability to deliver massively high speed connections. So, if a school, academy or local authority is running mission-critical applications over the internet, such as content-streaming or Voice over IP, TRUSTnet can offer total peace of mind.

As well as broadband, TRUSTnet comes with a comprehensive array of bundled services  including internet filtering, secure filtered email for pupils and staff, Sophos antivirus software, video conferencing, cloud-based storage and access to a huge collection of premium learning resources, including unrivalled BETT award-winning curriculum content for Early Years to Key Stage 4. Anti-virus is currently available for home users and teachers whose schools access LGfL. Teachers also benefit from the option of cheaper home connectivity from Virgin should they request it.

SuperCloud

LGfL is embracing the opportunity of the "cloud" to transform teaching and learning and its future content and services will be delivered through a SuperCloud that harnesses the best of public and private cloud provision.

Key resources in SuperCloud include those to be exhibited at Bett; Developing British Values for KS2-5, Symbol Library, aimed at KS1-4 learners with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and English as an Additional Language (EAL) and coming soon, compelling real world exemplars of Cyber Security introduced for KS2-4 learners.
