Students Selected to Participate in Student Technology Showcase at the State Capitol

16th Annual AT&T / MACUL / MVU Student Showcase will feature student technology projects

OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. - Dec. 9, 2016 - PRLog -- LANSING, Mich. – Students from Eagle Creek Academy headed to the Capitol this month to participate in the 16th annual AT&T/MACUL/MVU Student Technology Showcase. This event was held Wednesday, December 7 from 9:15 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. and gave students opportunities to demonstrate and display technology projects they have created for state lawmakers. It was an opportunity for parents, students and other attendees to have time to discuss technology and innovation in schools with state education leaders.

Presented by the Michigan Association for Computer Users in Learning (MACUL), and underwritten by AT&T and Michigan Virtual University, the 2016 Student Showcase featured demonstrations from students representing 30+ schools across Michigan.

"Our students did an amazing job of sharing what they learned with lawmakers and visitors.  They have learned to apply technology and to find success through difficulty and perseverance."said Amie Gamache, STEM teacher at Eagle Creek Academy.

Said Jim Murray, president of AT&T Michigan: "These students and their teachers understand how important technology learning is in today's ever-connected world. When students have opportunities to learn about and become more comfortable with technology, they are more prepared for their futures."

The local students' project focuses on Cars That Go, a Kindergarten through Eighth grade Science, Technology, Engineering and Math project that had the youngest students learning about force, gravity, friction and inertia using toy cars and balloon car kits, third and fourth grade students researching and creating balloon powered cars and fifth through eighth grade students developing rubber band and mousetrap powered cars.

"We are looking forward to seeing the projects brought to the Capitol this year," said Mark Smith, MACUL executive director. "The Student Showcase is a great opportunity for students to demonstrate their work with technology.  We couldn't be more excited to see what the students have prepared."

MACUL is an organization dedicated to bringing educators from all levels together to share their knowledge and concerns regarding educational uses of computers and technology. For further information about the Showcase, visit www.macul.org or call 517-882-1403.
