When the presses first came into existence they were mechanically controlled. During the early phase, these presses used to have a flywheel and a single rotation clutch. Most of these clutches, when operated through a solenoid gets engaged with flywheel, and this energy is transmitted to the ram of the machine. These presses used to have many moving parts and hence had more noise pollution and require more maintenance.

As the time passed by brake motors were introduced in these machines and the electric brakes were used to start and stop the operation. With this new method utilizing brake motors the clutch had its own drawbacks. Moreover, as there were more moving parts, they asked for replacement/maintenance frequently.

Now the latest designs of machines use an inverter to generate electronic braking. Such designs are more effective and require Zero Maintenance. In these latest machines is the controls are used with embedded technology.

The press plays a major role in the Crimping process and the main factors which play an important role include the pressing force, cycle time, repeatability, stability of bearing, the precision of guides, and play between Moving Parts, shut height and rigidity of the frames. We have different types of the press which include bench type press of 2- ton force with the best economic design. This model is operated by the foot switch for both side and end feed terminals.

The next major model is Model RTF 4M. This includes the semi-automatic bench type crimping machine. Moreover, the machine is a microprocessor and the design is built on steel plates and not on casting. The product is more reliable and even long lasting in nature. The model RTF 4M uses single phase 220V and AC 50hz.

The most important thing while designing a press is the position of the lower dead center of the press. If there is any variation in the shut height the height between the Lower Dead center and the base of the press where the applicator is mounted, it will be reflected in the crimping procedure. While manufacturing we check this shut height at the prototype stage and intermittently by Press Analyzer.

The maximum variation of the shut height of the press which could be allowed is 3 microns which indicate the high-quality workmanship that has gone into the manufacturing of the Crimping Press.

The major problem in shut height is seen once the press comes into considerable usage. With regular usage, there is an increase in the shut height variation which results in crimping faults. Regular maintenance is a must in such a situation after the stipulated time frame. The shut height default is also seen when the machines are not well designed or not manufactured properly. Such machines will give shut height variation right from the date of purchase.
