By: #ServingHopeLV The Las Vegas Housing and Urban Development Office (HUD) reached out to #ServingHopeLV— As a result, #ServingHopeLV— Throughout the summer, #ServingHopeLV serviced six different properities including: · Two HUD properties with a combined total of 395 units, primarily comprised of single moms and dads who are working multiple part-time jobs who can't keep food in the refrigerator. · One HUD property for senior citizens, of which 85 units were in need and served by #ServingHopeLV. · One HUD-operated community garden that served an average of 35 seniors. · A 36-trailer trailer park that #ServingHopeLV continues to serve to this day, which has a mix of single parents, seniors, and handicapped individuals. · One church that #ServingHopeLV continues to serve to this day. Roughly 35 families show up to the church each week. Moses says, "There are so many people in our city who do not know where their next meal is coming from. Many people have been made aware of the hunger problem that children and families face, but very few people realize the challenges that senior citizens face when their retirement income falls far below even basic needs. It is important that we raise awareness of this important issue and continue to support people of all ages in Las Vegas. No one, of any age, deserves to go hungry." He adds, "HUD, the USDA, the State of Nevada, and The Culinary Academy have done some amazing work with these families, and supporting their efforts took our mission to feed Las Vegas's hungry to the next level. We continue to seek such partnerships, and it is our hope that, with the help of these other organizations and dedicated volunteers, there will come a day that hunger in Las Vegas is completely eliminated."
