COLUMBIA, S.C. - Dec. 7, 2016 - PRLog -- There's a new way to show school pride at Richland Northeast High School. Students, teachers, and others can now get their own student-designed SAFE Federal Credit Union debit card.

The card, designed by Richland Northeast junior Teniqua Reddy, was unveiled Friday in a special event at the SAFE campus branch inside the high school, on Brookfield Road. The card design shows a view of the school, the school's Cavaliers logo, and the SAFE logo.

SAFE, the largest credit union based in the Midlands, operates a school-run branch at Richland Northeast for students and school employees. Students are trained as tellers and work in the branch two days each week. It is part of a partnership that SAFE and Richland Northeast established in 2014.

"Credit union branches in schools aren't uncommon, but not many offer their own student designed debit card," said Toby Hayes, Vice President of Marketing for SAFE Federal Credit Union. "We have enjoyed working with Richland Northeast to make this card available to anyone who is a fan of the Cavaliers."

Aggie Smith, manager of SAFE's nearby Sandhill Station Branch, oversees the school branch, working with the students.

"We are dedicated to educating the students and serving the community. So we appreciate the opportunity to have a branch here, where we can help young people learn about banking and the various accounts and services offered at financial institutions," said Susan Allison, SAFE Vice President of Member Experience.

"Richland Northeast is teaching students skills that are often overlooked in schools across the country, and we are glad we can provide this personalized school debit card to help build on that financial education."

Dr. Debbie Hamm, Superintendent of Richland School District Two, emphasized that "It's really important to note that students care more when they are involved like this. It is a great card. We are truly grateful to SAFE."
