Mother-Daughter Trio Launches HuesBox

Health, Beauty, and Wellness Subscription Box Service Curated for People of Color

MINNEAPOLIS - Dec. 6, 2016 - PRLog -- The Hues Company, a lifestyle brand curated by people of color specifically for people of color, today announced the launch of HuesBox, its health, beauty and wellness subscription box service. HuesBox is a multi-layered enterprise: (1) connecting minority-owned small businesses with a target audience of minority consumers, (2) encouraging subscriber participation in online discussions and, (3) re-engaging with the old traditions in communities of color.

Founded by a local mother-daughter trio, the sisters and their mother got the idea for HuesBox after years of difficulty finding a diversity of health, beauty, and wellness products designed for people of color. "As a Black woman growing up in Minnesota, I had to go to specialty stores to find a wide range of health and beauty products that worked on my skin and hair. Yet, even if you find something you think you might like, you're stuck buying the full-size version of the product," lamented co-founder, Miss Jenaé Harris. "What's worse," added her sister, Dr. Jasmine L. Harris, "existing subscription box services ignore the needs of people of color when selecting products for their respective boxes. After trying and canceling several subscription boxes services we saw a clear need in the market for a subscription box that felt made for us."

The Harris women encountered a secondary issue -- many minority-owned small businesses in the health, beauty, and wellness space have difficulty reaching their target audience of minority consumers. These businesses are less-likely to have significant marketing and advertising dollars. With very few opportunities to reach a captive target audience, Jasmine and Jenaé, along with their mother Robin, saw the impact HuesBox could have on small minority-owned businesses still in their infancy.

Each month subscribers have a 15-day window -- from the 1st to 15th of each month -- to order their HuesBox. Subscribers complete a hair, skin, and wellness profile as a requirement of membership. Every HuesBox is curated with 4 – 6 sample size products best suited to the unique needs of the subscriber based on their profile. Each month's HuesBox is themed and includes a traditional beauty secret from communities of color around the world. "We love the profile because it allows us to deliver a monthly box filled with products the subscribers can actually use," emphasized, co-founder Robin Harris.  "We want our subscribers to feel pampered by their HuesBox subscription."

The inaugural HuesBox will ship after December 15, the last day subscribers can sign-up for a December box.  The inaugural box will feature several brands owned and operated by people of color, including NaturalSelf SkinCare. "HuesBox is a great way for us to reach a wide audience and we share their commitment to communities of color," said Ciara Rivers, owner of NaturalSelf SkinCare.
