JMA & Amla Birla Kendra Pilani Celebrate UN International Day of Persons with Disabilities IDPD 2016

Evidence and experience shows that when barriers to their inclusion are removed and persons with disabilities are empowered to participate fully in societal life, their entire community benefits.
 
PILANI, India - Dec. 3, 2016 - PRLog -- Barriers faced by persons with disabilities are, therefore, a detriment to society as a whole, and accessibility is necessary to achieve progress and development for all. Since 1992, the United Nations International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) has been celebrated annually on 3 December around the world. For 2016, Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon message is "Let us work together for the full and equal participation of persons with disabilities in an inclusive and sustainable world that embraces humanity in all its diversity."

JMA Pilani has established a rich tradition of observing various days of international as well as national importance. The school firmly believes in bringing the feel good factor among students and teachers for a lifelong Alma mater alumni connect. For the past several years, JMA has been closely working with  Amla Kendra Birla a school for special children established in 1995 in the town of Pilani Rajasthan by Sri SK Birla in memory of his beloved daughter. Mr UK Pandey has been heading the institution till date from the date of its founding. The school presently has strength of 50 students. Children from this school have also participated in several Special Olympics (which is not same as Para Olympics) in different parts of the world. Mr UK Pandey is one of the important officials in Rajasthan state of Special Olympics Bharat.

On 3 Dec 2016, a colourful function was organized at Amla Birla Kendra wth Dr Suman Mishra President of JMA Pilani as Chief Guest and as Guest of Honor Dr BR Natarajan presently advisor to Sangam University Bhilwara and Mrs Booma Natarajan Principal JMA. The children of both schools played several games together which included sack race, tug of war too. The musical chair in which teachers of both schools participated was a star attraction. Chief Guest Dr Suman Mishra distributed the prizes and sweets to all students.


Prof BR Natarajan who is also a well known alumnus of BITS Pilani in his speech highlighted facts and figures of global disability as well as the Indian scenario. While schools across the country including the IITs were facing teacher shortages, Dr Natarajan said that technology alone can break such stale mates. On this occasion, Prof Natarajan in memory of his beloved mother gifted the school a state of the art screen projector to bring about drastic change in approach to teaching and learning aspects of special children.


The special song released by Shankar Mahadevan academy to mark IDPD 2016 Garv Se Jiyenge - Will Live with Pride and the song Mukaam by Pravaah released by Proud to be BITSians Prakarsh Gunjal and Ankit Bareja alumni of BITS Pilani along with Shaliwahan was thoroughly enjoyed by all the students. The celebrations ended with Mudra group pioneered silent National anthem which had everyone paying respect to the motherland.
