PRLog -- Leadership consultant Blair Glaser and nonprofit expert Susan J. Ragusa are joining forces to create The Hudson Valley Sustainable Leadership Organization, a for-profit consultancy to serve Hudson Valley nonprofits. HV SLO (pronounced
H.V. slow) seeks to bring real change to the region's nonprofit sector through bespoke consulting and a signature, year-long peer-to peer coaching program for Executive Directors.
Glaser is a former psychotherapist who has coached leaders and consulted with a variety of businesses based in New York City and Ulster County, spending a few years on staff at V-Day, an NPO for women founded by Eve Ensler. Ragusa, a former educator, has consulted with organizations in New York City and the Hudson Valley, including TMI Project and Astor Services for Children and Families. Glaser and Ragusa believe their complementary skills and experience will strengthen the leadership of nonprofits, adding another kind of sustainability to the region. "When organizations are equipped to spend less time scrambling for funds and more time advancing their mission, communities are better served," Glaser said.
"The majority of nonprofit organizations have little more than several months of operating funds on hand," says Ragusa. "That's a lot of stress." HV SLO's Executive Director Leadership program, slated to start in 2017, aims to help leaders manage that stress better. Through education, peer support and private coaching, nonprofit leaders will be equipped to drive a sense of mission down through the organization, upward into the board and outward into the community. HV SLO is in the process of securing revenue in order to offer the program to nonprofit Executives at an affordable rate.
In addition to hosting the program, Glaser and Ragusa will serve NPOs with their bespoke consulting in the areas of strategic planning and fundraising, board development, and organizational consulting.
Glaser and Ragusa first met in Chichester, NY in 2011, where Glaser gave a TedX talk. The partners, each developing their own consulting practices and writing for selected publications, did not meet again until last March at the popular HV Tech Meetup. They agreed to have a cup of coffee and swap consulting stories. "We discovered a lot of similarities, especially in the nonprofit consulting we were doing," Glaser said. Ragusa added, "We especially connected over the struggles faced by Hudson Valley Executive Directors -- often "accidental leaders" -- visionaries for a cause who come to the work without sufficient leadership training or experience.
Glaser and Ragusa are currently planning to host a launch / holiday party for HV SLO in December at PAKT, a new Kingston restaurant. For more information, please visit :
