WHIN Music Project Youth Orchestras Harmonize the Neighborhood

 
NEW YORK - Nov. 27, 2016 - PRLog -- After a successful concert for the Latin American Cultural Week at the Soto Velez Cultural Center in November, WHIN Music Project brings music and harmony to the Washington Heights & Inwood neighborhoods. This concert will showcase music of Granados, Corelli, Piazzolla and other composers, featuring soloists Kathryn Tomlin, Andrea Profili, Regina Fierro, and Cole Wagner. The concert will take place at Our Saviour's Atonement Lutheran Church (178 Bennett Ave) December 10 at 3:30 pm, free.

The Washington Heights and Inwood (WHIN) Music Project was founded in 2012, inspired by the world acclaimed Venezuelan orchestral model of El Sistema. In 2013 WHIN Music Project incorporated to Orchestrating Dreams, a non-profit which believes that music education is a human right and essential for the well-being of a healthy society. We serve 130 participants ages 3-24 and use music education as a vehicle for social transformation for underserved youth. Orchestrating Dreams provides accessible high-quality education initiatives, offer training and resources for teens and young adults to develop a skills to enter the workforce, reduce unemployment, and help mobilize families into economic independence. Our programs use music education and social service agencies to assess participants' emotional wellbeing, track academic achievement, and develop curricula to support the economic mobility of low-income participants.
