Taiwan offers Solutions for India's Smart Cities

A team of officials from Taiwan's Institute for Information Industry have visited Chennai to meet with officials of the State Government as well as trade and industry bodies.

CHENNAI, India - Nov. 24, 2016 - PRLog -- A team of officials from Taiwan's Institute for Information Industry have visited Chennai to meet with officials of the State Government as well as trade and industry bodies. At a seminar held in Chennai on November 5th, they presented Taiwan's capabilities and impressive track record in implementation of Smart City solutions. They have indicated their readiness to collaborate with Indian agencies to implement the same in Tamil Nadu. The meeting was attended by officials from Institute for Information Industry, Taipei Economic & Cultural Center (TECC) and Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA).

ABOUT INSTITUTE FOR INFORMATION INDUSTRY (III), TAIWAN

Institute for Information Industry was founded in 1979 as a government and industry jointly sponsored ICT Research Institute. Based in Taipei, they worked with a goal to develop a world-class information industry in Taiwan. It has international operations in various regions like the USA, Africa, Middle East, South East Asia and Eastern Europe.

III has a strong track record of over 1000 patents and having provided technology transfer over 675 companies. The institute has built smart cities at Changhua, Taitung, New Taipei, Taoyuan, Hsinchu, Taichung and more. III now offers its expertise to local bodies in Tamil Nadu and India to modernise and move towards becoming Smart. This will involve building infrastructure that consists of fiber, wireless and mobile integration and 4G smart broadband coverage. Focus will be given to improving public mobility and amenities and improve efficiency of services being delivered by various local bodies.

The III India Office was set up in Chennai in 2006. Their key focus was on India-Taiwan ICT, Electronic research organizations and Industry, collaboration, facilitating Taiwan Industry to India and ICT Market survey and research. Today, it has a MoU with IIT Madras, CeWiT, GIL, ZENICS and MAIT. It has been listed on NASSCOM. The India Office is represented in Chennai by Sumit Bothra, Deputy Director.

The companies that will partner on this project are Chunghwa System Integration which is into information communications and technology: Unity Opto Technology – the world's top LED company, Green Ideas Technology – develops smart lighting control systems, Newsoft Technology – Smart Retail and Smart Digital Signage and the Taiwan Internet of Things Alliance.
