Group That Knits Hats, Gloves, Scarves for Homeless Vets Issues Holiday Wish List

DALLAS - Nov. 22, 2016 - PRLog -- T.H.R.I.V.E. Association, a Dallas-based non-profit that provides hand-crafted goods to homeless veterans, says its holiday wish list includes yarn, knitting and crochet needles and gift cards to local craft shops.

"Winter is on its way, and our volunteers are working hard to create warm hats, gloves, scarves and more for homeless veterans," says Victoria Walker, T.H.R.I.V.E.'s founder and CEO. "We have been fortunate to receive a fair amount of donated yarn and other supplies, but our volunteers are quite productive and we always need more."

Because acrylic and bamboo yarn is machine washable, Walker says she prefers it over wool yarn, which can also cause allergic reactions in some. In addition to supplies, Walker says she welcomes gift cards to JoAnn, Michael's, Walmart and other stores where knitting supplies can be purchased.

Founded in 2015, T.H.R.I.V.E. holds weekly "craft-a-thons" at various locations. The next event is 6 p.m. Friday, November 28, at Half Price Books, 5803 Northwest Highway, Dallas, TX 75231. Volunteers are welcome and are encouraged to register at the group's Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/thrivevets/. Complimentary basic knitting and crochet lessons are offered for those who don't know how or who just need a refresher.
