World Bicycle Relief's #GivingTuesday Campaign Sets Ambitious Goal for 2016

Shattering its #GivingTuesday goals in previous years, World Bicycle Relief rallies its supporters to raise even more funds and make an even greater impact in 2016

CHICAGO - Nov. 21, 2016 - PRLog -- World Bicycle Relief, a global non-profit distributing high quality bicycles in rural developing countries, announced today its participation in this year's #GivingTuesday on November 29th with the goal to empower 1,200 students with bicycles. #GivingTuesday is a global day of charitable giving and a collaborative effort to kick off the holidays in the true spirit of the season. It is also a charitable response to the consumerism of Black Friday and Cyber Monday and a special day to bring people together to amplify positive change.

World Bicycle Relief has participated in #GivingTuesday in 2014 and 2015- each year exceeding their fundraising and impact goals. In 2015, World Bicycle Relief surpassed its goal of mobilizing 800 students with bicycles when its supporters raised enough funds for 1,000 bicycles.

World Bicycle Relief has been highlighted as an organization that has successfully tapped into this new and powerful fundraising day. As cited by CauseVox, by coupling a fundraising goal with an impact goal, in 2015 "World Bicycle Relief ended up blowing their impact goal out of the water."

CauseVox notes that #GivingTuesday has had tremendous growth, catapulting from $45.6 million in online donations in 2014 to a whopping $116.4 million in 2015. "#GivingTuesday has proven itself to be a valuable fundraising opportunity for nonprofits in the US and around the world," said Candance Cody at CauseVox.

#GivingTuesday donations have been propelled by online giving and particularly social media. "There's been an estimated 470% increase in online donations since #GivingTuesday began in 2012. Times are changing, too — about 17% of online donation form views on #GivingTuesday 2014 were via a mobile device," reports the USA Today. The USA Today also noted World Bicycle Relief's success on #GivingTuesday in large part due to the organization's "strong #GivingTuesday social media presence."

Fundraising not only benefits worthy causes and charities, but also the person who is giving. "Research has shown that people who give are happier, more fulfilled, more empathetic, even more professionally successful. And so giving leads to even more gratitude. The "giving cycle" brings out the best in all of us," says Asha Curran at The Huffington Post.

In a nod to organizations that have successfully harnessed this giving wave, Ms Curran included World Bicycle Relief in a list of organizations that have run a "successful, creative, fun, inspirational and effective campaign."

This year, World Bicycle Relief's #GivingTuesday goal is to empower 1,200 students with bicycles. Over the past ten years, World Bicycle Relief has mobilized students, especially girl students, who face long, difficult and often dangerous journeys to school. World Bicycle Relief believes a simple, sturdy bicycle has the power to change lives. By providing a girl a way to get to school safely, she's empowered to stay in school, get an education and break the cycle of poverty. World Bicycle Relief is confident that the power of bicycles can play an influential role in progress for all students, but especially girl students, worldwide in rural developing areas.

To top is all off, all contributions to World Bicycle Relief's #GivingTuesday campaign will be matched 1:1, making your gift go twice as far.
