Members of the New York City Dance Community Announce Unite Against HIV for 2016 World AIDS Day!

NEW YORK - Nov. 21, 2016 - PRLog -- NEW YORK, NY -- The Brown Dance Project (The BDP) creative research lab is thrilled to celebrate its 10 Year Anniversary by leading pop up dance performances and the relaunch of a YouTube video dance choreography, THE SOUND OF A FEELING. Performed with soloist H. D. HORNER III as a dance for the camera to commemorate the thirtieth anniversary of the first reported cases of HIV/AIDS in the United States, the video dance was born out of conversations with New York dance artists performing during the 1980's and illuminates the impact of the arrival of GRIDS (Gay-related immune deficiency syndrome) to the American landscape. Also, members of New York City's dance community is mobilizing on Thursday, 1 December 2016 for World AIDS Day, in response to the US Department of Health and Human Services statement to observe the HIV awareness days. World AIDS Day is a day of worldwide solidarity to unite in the fight against HIV. Volunteers will share the Pedagogy of Action HIV Prevention Education method around Manhattan in pop-up dance performances.  The event is led and choreographed by Rodney A. Brown, Principal Investigator at The BDP lab, and Melissa Riker, choreographer/ activist and Artistic Director of Kinesis Project dance theatre. A Rehearsal Space Grant for the World AIDS Day dance event has been awarded by Gibney Dance Choreographic Center – "an organization that brings movement where it otherwise wouldn't exist."
