RISHIKESH, India - Nov. 18, 2016 - PRLog -- Ashtanga Vinyasa Flow yoga is that type of yoga which was founded, practiced and popularized by K. Pattabhi Jois. It is also known as a modern form of classical yoga. It is basically a combination of Ashtanga and Vinyasa yoga about which we will discuss further.

Ashtanga

Ashtanga means eight limbs of which asana (posture) and pranayama (breath) are just two limbs (parts). It also includes mudras, bandhas and yoga philosophy. It consists of practicing postures of 8 limbs in a series with synchronized breathing. It produces intense heat and sweat that detoxify the body and purifies it at the same time. This results in light felt but strong body, improved blood circulation and calm, stress-free mind. Its first 4 limbs- Yama, niyama, asana and pranayama take care of cleansing the body both, internally and externally. It includes 3 series:-

1. Primary Series or Yoga Therapy

2. Intermediate Series or Nadi Shodhana

3. Advanced Series or Sthira Bhaga or strengthening of core/mind

Benefits of Ashtanga

1. Increased focus and concentration- It helps in concentrating and focusing on yoga exercises without getting distracted by anything or any person.

2. Helps set own pace and rhythm- It helps the practitioner in setting his/her own speed of practice and do them in a rhythmic way.

3. Practicing in group- Ashtanga yoga practice if done in a group brings out one's internal energy and combines it with similar energies emitted by others. Thus, it creates an energetic environment which is beneficial for all.

Vinyasa

Vinyasa refers to the practice of yoga in a continuous way or flow. In this style, the practitioner transits from one pose to another in a simplified, yet connected way. Vinyasa in Sanskrit means 'to place in a special way'. This means, to practice yoga in a specific pre-defined way. Vinyasa is further divided into 4 steps:-

1. To link the breath with body movements.

2. Breath-synchronized with yoga-based movements.

3. Setting intention or mentally preparing self for the practice of yoga.

4. Select and follow a certain style of yoga.

Benefits of Vinyasa

1. Offers strength training- Vinyasa yoga works on strength training and helps in building lean muscles throughout the body.

2. Improves flexibility- It removes stiffness from muscles and improves body and muscle flexibility.

Relieves stress and breathing- It helps in relieving stress both- physically and mentally and improves breathing.
