WHEELING, W.Va. - Nov. 18, 2016 - PRLog -- Plenty of food will be part of the Ziegenfelder Company's annual Christmas breakfast, but most of it won't be served during the Dec. 5 event at Wheeling Island Race Track.

Ziegenfelder employees will participate in a charity function with weServeEats, an organization dedicated to feeding hungry and overlooked children through nutrient-packed, cost-efficient food.

The Ziegenfelder team representing the company headquarters in Wheeling will pack approximately 25,000 meals that eventually will be distributed to hungry kids in Liberia, West Africa. Breanna Humphries, the founder of weServeEats, is a process specialist who has been part of the Ziegenfelder team for a year.

"We wanted to do something special to help those less fortunate," said Lisa Allen, President and CEO of Ziegenfelder Company. "Our holiday breakfast and company meeting provided us an opportunity to have our team participate in such an important endeavor. The fact that Breanna is the founder of weServeEats makes this an even more significant project."

Ziegenfelder's two other plants in Denver, Colorado, and Chino, California, also will participate in similar events. The Ziegenfelder team in Denver will pack an estimated 25,000 meals in conjunction with the charity Harvest Pack. The Chino team will pack shoeboxes with school supplies, toys and other items to assist Operation Christmas Child.  Dates and sites of those events are being finalized.

"Whether we realize it or not, we've got it good here," said Humphries, who has traveled to West Africa as part of the weServeEats project. "It's great to help locally, but when you can feed 5 children with just $1, it's hard to pass up that opportunity to help. The kids I've met in Liberia are so close to my heart, and I am so grateful to work for a company that shares my love of service to others."

For 155 years, the Ziegenfelder name has been synonymous with wholesome frozen treats such as its Budget Saver Twin Pops. The company is the largest producer of frozen twin pops in the United States.

The Dec. 5 event in Wheeling will begin at 8:30 a.m. with a breakfast meeting. Employees then will help package food for weServeEats, a charity that has made a big impact while working with the organizations such as Kids Against Hunger, Lifeline Christian Ministries and Harvest Pack.

Earlier this year, as part of a weServeEats project, 150 volunteers at a church in Rolling Plains, Ohio, helped pack 64,464 meals that were shipped to Monrovia, Liberia in West Africa. In 2012, approximately 200 volunteers at the same church packed 71,280 meals in less than 2 hours. That project sent 9,000 meals to hungry kids in the local area and the remainder went to Liberia.
