TAMPA, Fla. - Nov. 17, 2016 - PRLog -- On October 11th 2016, Tampa Police District 1 dedicated a memorial garden in honor of Officer Lois M. Marrero. Five Star Flooring of Tampa Bay and Tile Outlets of America helped bring the memorial to life.

The memorial garden honors Officer Lois M. Marrero who died in the line of duty. Officer Marrero was a dynamic police officer who helped everyone she could, as often as she was able. Known for her integrity, she did the right things for the right reasons, no matter the consequences. She mentored, corrected, guided, and stood up for officers as well as the citizens she served. She was a force for good and could be counted on for fairness and decency in her interactions with all people, according to Officer Felicia Pecora, a 16-year veteran of the Tampa Police Department, who was a rookie at the time of Officer Marrero's death.

Hector Morejon from Five Star Flooring of Tampa Bay personally installed the handmade tile for the Memorial Garden. "The memorial made me feel proud that I could do something so special for Officer Marrero and the community. It was a privilege and an honor," said Hector Morejon.

The idea to create a memorial space for Officer Marrero started in 2014 when a retiring officer regretted that Tampa Police District 1 had no memorial space. District 1 comprises the western and southern parts of Tampa and is immersed in robust cultural history.

The memorial garden was designed to be a reflection of Officer Marrero as well as District 1 in Tampa. Hence the idea of a two-tiered planter that looks like a Spanish-style fountain to give the garden a Spanish courtyard feel that would be in keeping with Officer Marrero's heritage.

Tile Outlets of America provided genuine ceramic handmade tiles in blues and yellows. The bright royal blue represents the blue line of law enforcement and the beautiful design on the top row of tiles includes the same colors in a cross motif.

"Being part of the Memorial for Officer Marrero was a great honor. I feel it was the least I could do to show my appreciation not only for Officer Marrero's ultimate sacrifice serving and protecting our community, but also for all the other police officers who put their lives and wellbeing on the line every day," said Rickey Williams, Assistant Manager, Tile Outlets in Tampa. "It was moving to see how the Tile Outlets of America store support team was so involved to ensure this memorial was completed to expectations," he added.

Several tiles were purposely broken for use in an artful planter mosaic that art students from Tampa Preparatory Academy created. This planter is the centerpiece of the garden and the signature item in the space.

The Officer Marrero Memorial Garden is located at the District 1 substation and serves as a place of remembrance and fellowship among officers and staff, to celebrate milestones and remember fallen heroes.
