The Flood Sisters Help Benefit Kidney Disease

Nov. 15, 2016 - PRLog -- The Flood Sisters Kidney Foundation is hosting an event to benefit kidney disease featuring Corinna Shapiro and headlining the event is Dave Bickler, former lead singer of the band, Survivor.

Speakers include Katherine Whymark, a kidney donor to her husband through a kidney chain and Anthony Risbustello, a former sopranos actor who needs a kidney donor.

Jennifer, Cynthia, and Heather are three sisters from New York who were on a mission to save their father's life. The three of them knew that there was hope out there, they just had to find it. They had an "out of the box" idea to post an ad on Craigslist in 2008 for a kidney donor for their father as they were not matches. They received over 1,000 responses nationwide and a perfect match was found from a woman in California.

The sisters started this foundation to provide living kidney donor matching services to those in need which in turn shortens the waiting time for others and those on dialysis.  The focus of the foundation is centered on the idea of the "altruistic donor" or unrelated living donor.  It is their philosophy that no one should have to wait for a new life on a "waiting list" or suffer through dialysis if they don't have to. "The more we bring awareness to people on the benefits of living donation, the less need there will be for a waiting list." The foundation believes that there also will be less of a kidney shortage as more people realize that unrelated living donors exist and people need to be educated about this growing issue in health care.

"Our story is simple. It is a message that conveys the courage to go beyond the norm and act upon it. It is only through courage, persistence, hope and love that we can start saving lives together."
