Follow on Google News | Sunny smiles as Salvation Army brings help to AlexBy: The Salvation Army Members of the organisation visited the area earlier this week to bring some much-needed relief to those who had suffered flooding after the torrential downpours over Johannesburg last week. PR Secretary for The Salvation Army Southern Africa Territory, Major Carin Holmes, said: "Even though the sun was shining brightly when we visited Alexandra, it was clear that many people were in a great deal of distress following the floods. "But we are reminded that, even with good rainfall, South Africans need to be good stewards of their water resources and not waste this precious gift by being careless with their water usage." The Salvation Army has been working in cooperation with Johannesburg Disaster Management and the Red Cross to bring comfort, goods, blankets and clothing to those affected. ENDS The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by love for God, and its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and meet human needs without discrimination. The Southern Africa Territory of The Salvation Army encompasses four countries - South Africa, Namibia, Lesotho and Swaziland - and the island of St Helena. Its officers, soldiers and full-time employees provide their spiritual and community services through approximately 230 corps (churches), societies and outposts, as well as through schools, hospitals, institutions for children, street children, the elderly, men and abused women, and daycare, goodwill, rehabilitation and social centres.
