Follow on Google News | LEAP CEO, A Member of County Executive Baker's Business Delegation in CubaDr. Clayton Lawrence is a delegate for an exploratory business mission trip to Cuba this week, led by Prince George's County Executive, Rushern L. Baker.
The trip will span six days and will represent County Executive Baker's long-term plan for international business development, which was unveiled earlier this year. The plan is a four-part initiative that includes hosting local international business development summits, co-hosting trade missions with the Governor's Department of Commerce, executing County-hosted, targeted international trade missions, and rapidly preparing and enabling local businesses to export their goods and services to the world. The delegation is comprised of executives that represent the following industries: information technology, hospitality, engineering, construction, medical/life sciences, and agriculture. While there, the group will meet with key leaders from each of these industrial segments, while also meeting with leaders from Cuba's education and art scene for future exchanges and collaborations. "It is truly a once and a lifetime opportunity to be a part of such a critical mission to explore partnerships and opportunities to potentially bring important commercial goods and services to the people of Cuba, " Dr. Lawrence shared when asked about being a part of the delegation. "County Executive Baker and Ms. Franco recognize that as the most powerful and economically developed nation in the world, it is our global duty to engage in conversations with other nations about global development opportunities, while also learning more about the economic needs of other countries throughout the world. I am honored to join them both on this trip and to be a member of an esteemed group of leaders who are truly looking forward to all that this trip will hold." County Executive Baker has stated, ""I want to make sure that Prince George's County is in the forefront of the new opportunities in Cuba for business and cultural exchanges." He continued, "We want to ensure that as Cuba begins to look at the United States and the Washington, D.C. region, it understands Prince George's County's proximity to the nation's Capital and all that the County has to offer."
