According to Johnson, "The first forum aims to inform Suffolk residents about important policing policies which provide for public and officer safety while promoting healing and building the public's trust to forestall civic unrest." "The second forum will address the department's plan to build a more diverse police force through increased recruitment efforts in the minority community," she stated. "We, as ministers of the Gospel, will also be present to offer prayers for the continued peace of our City, for its citizens, Chief Bennett and his officers." she said. Chief Bennett, along with Major Steve Patterson and Master Police Officer Dwayne Wiggins will be on hand to answer questions. "Members of the Suffolk Police Department and I look forward to having a frank discussion with members of our community regarding the police department's work in their neighborhoods, training of our officers and recruiting. Potential Items to be discussed include: -> Policy -> Training -> Internal Affairs Issues -> Community Programs -> Equipment -> Programs (Internal) -> Speaking Resources -> Minority Hiring – our status and community assistance," "I hope everyone will leave our gathering with a better understanding of what the police department does and why we do it," he concluded. Recently, local pastors and ministers gathered to discuss the forums and concerns about public safety during a planning meeting. "On behalf of the Suffolk Clergy United Fellowship, we encourage the people of Suffolk to participate in this community forum on policing. We are supportive of this occasion to have further dialogue which will encourage unity in our City," said the fellowship's Co-Founder, T.F. (Skip) Irby, Jr. a retired Suffolk pastor.
