Made as a high-grade plastic, acrylic is totally "water white", or clear, and it's far more durable than lower quality plastics. Cheap plastics tend to warp and discolor with prolonged exposure to the sun. Acrylic, however, can maintain its clarity regardless of sun exposure. And while it's more vulnerable to scratching than glass, it's far easier to buff out said scratches on acrylic.

Acrylic, however, is durable and light, with all the same aesthetic advantages of glass. As such, acrylic furniture has become an extremely popular form of home decor. It works as standalone furniture, or it can be coupled with older materials to create an eclectic atmosphere. One of the biggest reasons that people like acrylic furniture is that it makes any space seem larger, and more open, than with solid furniture.
