By: The Transformative Justice Coaltion Transformative Justice Coalition Barbara Arnwine said, "The Voting Rights Alliance, a non-partisan public interest organization, has received complaints from voters reporting that one or more candidates have issued unfounded and precipitous announcements of victory. These announcements have been confusing and discouraging to voters who aren't sure that they should continue to vote." Ms. Arnwine added, "As an organization dedicated to protecting the voting rights of all American citizens, we are deeply concerned about these misleading announcements, and any other actions which could foster confusion among voters or otherwise suppress voter turnout." She also said, "We urge the media, election officials, and all other responsible persons, organizations, and entities to provide accurate information about voting and the elections, including that no election results in any state or other jurisdiction shall be called for any candidate until after polls have closed. Also, that voters already in line at the time of polls closing shall be afforded the right to vote." She concluded, "We strongly urge all candidates, campaigns, spokespeople, advocates, etc. to employ all due diligence and refrain from any premature statements of victory that risk causing confusion and / or suppressing voter turnout, whether intentionally or inadvertently."
