BOLTON, Mass. - Nov. 5, 2016 - PRLog -- Maureen Harmonay presents a special screening of the documentary film One Day as a Benefit for Our Mims Retirement Haven, a sanctuary for retired thoroughbred mares, at The Strand Theatre in Clinton, MA on Sunday, November 6 from 1-4pm.

One Day is the true story of famed Calumet Farm's regally bred Our Mims, the 1977 Eclipse Award Champion Three-Year-Old Filly. As a teenage girl, Jeanne Mirabito first falls in love with Our Mims when she sees her race on TV. Jeanne makes a "cosmic claim" on Our Mims and vows that "one day" she will own her. Twenty-one years later, in the back field of a cattle farm, fate brings them together. From that chance meeting, Jeanne subsequently rescues and rehabilitates Our Mims, restoring her to her former grandeur and dignity. Our Mims lived until she was 29, and at her death, Jeanne wanted to ensure that the great mare's legacy would endure. She established a sanctuary in the mare's honor, Our Mims Retirement Haven (OMRH), where retired thoroughbred broodmares are given the red carpet treatment for the rest of their lives. OMRH is located in Paris, Kentucky.

One Day features interviews with the First Lady of Racing Penny Chenery (former owner of Secretariat), Eclipse Award-winning photographer Barbara Livingston, Hall of Fame Jockey Jorge Velasquez, and Award-winning journalist Steve Haskin. It includes narration by Emmy nominee Josh Charles (The Good Wife, Sports Night, Dead Poets Society).

One Day is directed by the founder of Palomino Entertainment Group, Victoria Racimo, who has an extensive career as an actress, writer, and director.

The film was produced by Palomino Entertainment Group as a gift to the Our Mims Retirement Haven, to raise awareness and support for the horses that live there. One Day is also used to educate the public about the issues that arise for horses who are no longer earning money on the racetrack or in the breeding shed.

Tickets to the Benefit Screening of One Day are $10. 100% of the proceeds will go directly to Our Mims Retirement Haven for the ongoing care of their horses.

Doors to the Benefit Showing open at 1:00pm; the film will start at 2:00pm.

The Strand Theatre is located at 58 High St. in Clinton, MA. Free on-street parking is available.
