One Day is the true story of famed Calumet Farm's regally bred Our Mims, the 1977 Eclipse Award Champion Three-Year-Old Filly. As a teenage girl, Jeanne Mirabito first falls in love with Our Mims when she sees her race on TV. Jeanne makes a "cosmic claim" on Our Mims and vows that "one day" she will own her. Twenty-one years later, in the back field of a cattle farm, fate brings them together. From that chance meeting, Jeanne subsequently rescues and rehabilitates Our Mims, restoring her to her former grandeur and dignity. Our Mims lived until she was 29, and at her death, Jeanne wanted to ensure that the great mare's legacy would endure. She established a sanctuary in the mare's honor, Our Mims Retirement Haven (OMRH), where retired thoroughbred broodmares are given the red carpet treatment for the rest of their lives. OMRH is located in Paris, Kentucky.
One Day features interviews with the First Lady of Racing Penny Chenery (former owner of Secretariat)
