New Christian Alternative to Elf on the Shelf: The Shepherd's Treasure

FORT WORTH, Texas - Nov. 3, 2016 - PRLog -- Each holiday season, Elf on the Shelf is a popular tradition where families hide an elf toy around the house to create Christmas spirit. Children love the Elf on the Shelf tradition, but for Christian families, it takes the focus away from the real meaning of Christmas and puts more of an emphasis on receiving presents. Stephanie Parker, co-founder of Sleepingbaby.com and the Zipadee-Zip, decided that she wanted to create a faith-based alternative to the Elf Tradition. That's when she thought of The Shepherd's Treasure – an interactive treasure hunt for kids to find the true meaning of Christmas. On Christmas morning, they will wake up find their Shepherd kneeling before the greatest treasure of all time: Jesus! The Shepherd's Treasure will become a new family favorite for the holidays and beyond to teach little ones to truly seek Jesus in their hearts.

Stephanie Parker shares, "Last year, I did the Elf on the Shelf tradition with my kids. Although this tradition might be a wonderful fit for a lot of families, I really struggled with it as it took their focus off of Jesus and turned it towards the presents they were going to be getting IF they were good when the elf was watching them. I found myself un-explaining the Elf's presence in our home because of how hard it became to refocus our children's minds on the TRUE meaning of the season and on giving instead of receiving."

The Shepherd's Treasure features a shepherd boy as the main character because the Bible contains so many stories about how God chose the most unlikely people to be the first to hear of Jesus' birth. Not only that, but God is often referred to as the Shepherd and we, His sheep!

The Parker family has two prayers for The Shepherd's Treasure: first, for the book to be a fun and interactive tool to teach children to search for Jesus in their hearts during Christmas and after the holiday season is over. Second, through their hunt with the Shepherd to find Jesus, they want children to come to understand that their hearts are much more valuable to God than their physical appearance, who they are friends with, or their material possessions.
