Encino Hospital Medical Center Awarded Healthgrades Five-Star Recipient

For Treatment of Heart Attack and Heart Failure 4 Years in a Row

ENCINO, Calif. - Nov. 2, 2016 - PRLog -- Every year, Healthgrades evaluates hospital performance at nearly 4,500 hospitals nationwide for 34 of the most common inpatient procedures and conditions.* Encino Hospital Medical Center today announced that it has achieved 5-Stars for its performance in Treatment of Heart Attack and Heart Failure for four years in a row (2017-2017) from Healthgrades, the leading online resource helping consumers make informed decisions to find the right doctor, the right hospital for the right care. This achievement is part of new findings and data released by Healthgrades and is featured in the Healthgrades 2017 Report to the Nation.

Encino Hospital Medical Center was also named a 5-Star recipient for these specific treatments and procedures:

• Hip Fracture Treatment for 2 Years in a Row (2016-2017)
• Treatment of Stroke for 4 Years in a Row (2014-2017)
• Treatment of Pneumonia in 2017
• Treatment of Sepsis for 4 Years in a Row (2014-2017)

"We are pleased to share this recognition from Healthgrades with our patients and community, as it demonstrates the dedication and performance of our teams in Cardiac, Stroke, Critical Care, Emergency, Orthopedics, Respiratory, and General Surgery," said Bockhi Park, Chief Executive Officer, Encino Hospital Medical Center. "These awards validate our hospital's mission and the outstanding teamwork exhibited to deliver each day on our commitment to quality, outcomes, patient safety, and clinical excellence."

The new report demonstrates how clinical performance continues to differ dramatically between hospitals regionally and nationally. This variation in care has a significant impact on health outcomes. For example, from 2013-2015, if all hospitals as a group performed similarly to hospitals receiving 5-stars as a group, on average, 223,412 lives could potentially have been saved and 162,215 complications could potentially have been avoided.** A 5-star rating indicates that Encino Hospital Medical Center's clinical outcomes are statistically significantly better than expected when treating the condition or performing the procedure being evaluated.

Additionally, for the 2017 Report to the Nation, Healthgrades compared hospitals with statistically better than expected performance (5-Stars), as a group, to those with statistically worse than expected performance (1-Star), as a group, and found:

• From 2013-2015, patients treated for Heart Attack in hospitals with 5-stars for inhospital mortality have, on average:

• 48.8% lower risk of dying than if they were treated in hospitals with 1-star for in-house mortality.*

• From 2013-2015, patients treated for Heart Attack in hospitals with 1-star for inhospital mortality are, on average:

• 2.0 times more likely to die than if they were treated in hospitals with 5-stars for in-hospital mortality.*

"Hospitals that have achieved Healthgrades 5 Stars in Treatment of Heart Failure have demonstrated a commitment to exceptional quality care for their patients," said Evan Marks, Chief Strategy Officer, Healthgrades. "In an environment where consumers have more choices about where to receive their care, a hospital's commitment to achieving a superior degree of quality for their patients is more important than ever."

*For its analysis, Healthgrades evaluated approximately 45 million Medicare inpatient records for nearly 4,500 short-term acute care hospitals nationwide, assessing hospital performance relative to each of 32 common conditions and procedures, as well as an evaluation of comparative outcomes in appendectomy and bariatric surgery using all-payer data provided by 18 states. Healthgrades recognizes a hospital's quality achievements for cohort-specific performance, specialty area performance, and overall clinical quality. Individual procedure or condition cohorts are designated as 5-star (statistically significantly better than expected), 3-star (not statistically different from expected) and 1-star (statistically significantly worse than expected) categories. Furthering its commitment to providing exceptional quality healthcare to its community, in 2016 Encino Hospital Medical Center became a recent recipient of The Joint Commission's Gold Seal of Approval © and the American Heart Association/ American Stroke Association's Heart-Check mark for Advanced Certification for Primary Stroke Centers.
