Follow on Google News | On the Air: Plano Residents Launch Plano Podcast – Tales of Curiosity and CharacterBy: Plano Podcast PLANO, TEXAS -- Mary Jacobs and Tammy Hooker want to get people in Plano talking about Plano. That's why the two Plano residents helped launch TEDxPlano in 2014, and now, they're launching another venue for local conversation: With the motto, "Always On, Always Plano," the podcast had its soft launch in May, releasing episodes that included: chronicling the art scene in downtown Plano featuring artists, business owners and City Councilperson David Downs; the inspiring story of Diane Reeve and her groundbreaking HIV court case; and "20 Signs You Grew Up in Plano" with recent Plano Senior High grad Macy Hedrick. "We're both storytellers and we're both excited about telling an eclectic mix of the stories from within Plano," said Jacobs, who is the producer for Plano Podcast. The two met in 2013 while participating in Leadership Plano (Class 31). Both transplants to Plano, they share an interest in the community, society, and how it's defined. For Jacobs the focus is in exploring the nature of how a city's mythology emerges. For Hooker, it's looking at a community as if it were a corporate culture full of politics, decisions and consequences. Episodes are geared to telling the stories of the people who live here and the decisions made - past and present - that are actively defining the Plano experience. "With Plano Podcast, we're opening the door on Plano's stories in a new, creative way," added Hooker, who is the host for the show. "There's history being made here daily, and remarkable people living among us. Our vision is that by listening to Plano Podcast, more of our 275,000 citizens and leaders will connect with one another, perhaps engaging with a renewed appreciation. We offer the voice behind the story bringing authentic conversations about Plano in an easily accessible, entertaining, portable, new medium." WIth interviews ranging from local mayors, city and county officials, to pastors and local trailblazers, the podcast covers topics in an unexpected way. Additionally, each episode includes a viewpoint from a noteworthy, special guest sharing his or her unscripted thoughts on the topic. "We are positive on Plano, but we're not taking a boosterish approach," said Jacobs.
