NEW PRAGUE, Minn. - Oct. 28, 2016 - PRLog -- Hartmann Well Drilling, a Minnesota well drilling company, wants to let Rice County residents know that they are eligible for financial assistance to seal-off old, unused or abandoned wells. The funds are available through the State of Minnesota Clean Water Legacy Act. The act expires December 31, 2016, so residents need to act quickly.

The Rice County Targeted Well Sealing Cost-Share Program allows property owners who apply before the sealing of their well occurs to be reimbursed up to 50 percent of the licensed contractor cost with a $1,000 ceiling. The well must occupy real property within the county, including those within city limits. There will be no reimbursement retroactive to work that has already been completed. In order to obtain funds, which are allotted on a first-come, first-serve basis, the approved project must bear a completion date no later than December 31, 2016.

Unsealed wells pose a widespread health hazard for contamination, which will in turn pollute the groundwater and ultimately the aquifer – the geologic formations underground that contain the primary source of drinking water for Rice County. Wells sealed with wood boards or concrete do not tend to do an adequate job in serving as a sealant. This is why an experienced contractor should be called in to properly seal the well.

A contractor, such as Hartmann Well Drilling, will be able to remove any debris or remaining pumping equipment from the well. Then they will use a special blend of grout mixture to fill the well and properly seal it off. This will ensure the groundwater around the well will not be contaminated.
