WATERBURY, Conn. - Oct. 25, 2016 - PRLog -- The Waterbury Regional Chamber's Manufacturing Council will host its sixth annual STEM/Advanced Manufacturing & Technology Expo on Friday, November 18, 2016, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Technology Hall Atrium of Naugatuck Valley Community College (NVCC) at 750 Chase Parkway in Waterbury. Admission is free and open to the public.

With support from the Waterbury Board of Education, Smaller Manufacturers Association (SMA), Granville Academy, and Cly-Del Manufacturing, hundreds of middle and high school students from throughout the Greater Waterbury region will attend the Expo to directly interact with local area manufacturing and technology executives and to view exhibits and demonstrations to learn about job and career opportunities from leading area manufacturers through STEM -- Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.

This is the first year the Chamber's STEM/Advanced Manufacturing & Technology Expo will be held at NVCC. Joseph DeFeo, program director for NVCC's Advanced Manufacturing Technology Center, commented, "We are very excited about the opportunity for middle and high school students to tour NVCC's Advanced Manufacturing Technology training facilities. This will be an exceptional opportunity for these students to walk through our actual classrooms and our advanced manufacturing machine lab to learn about career opportunities that abound in 21st century manufacturing."

Waterbury Regional Chamber President and CEO Lynn Ward remarked, "We are grateful to Naugatuck Valley Community College for hosting our STEM/Advanced Manufacturing & Technology Expo this year. We believe it presents a collaboration with NVCC's Advanced Manufacturing Center in a way that will serve to encourage our region's youth to consider a STEM or manufacturing career. The majority of our Chamber's manufacturing members continually express their strong need for skilled, talented professionals in these increasingly vibrant industries."

Rich DuPont, Waterbury Regional Chamber's Manufacturing Council Chairman, added, "This year's STEM Expo will provide an increased interactive opportunity between manufacturers from throughout the Greater Waterbury region and students from that area who have expressed or demonstrated an interest in manufacturing and/or STEM-based career paths.  To support that effort, the Expo is being held at NVCC where we will have the added value of touring students, employers, teachers and guidance counselors through the Advanced Manufacturing Technology Center to learn more about such related NVCC programs as engineering. We believe holding the Expo at NVCC will result in an improved experience for all participants."

SMA Executive Director Cyndi Zoldy agreed. "The SMA is proud to partner with the Waterbury Regional Chamber for the sixth annual STEM Expo. This event represents an important outreach to local and neighboring schools on the importance of STEM programming and careers in manufacturing. Our hope is with this event we can spark interests in students about the many diverse career opportunities manufacturing has to offer and it all starts with STEM classes in our schools."
