Follow on Google News | New article released uses statistics to argue Hillary Clinton is a "progressive" candidateA new article released by Curtis Miller argues, using DW NOMINATE scores, that Hillary Clinton has a progressive lean, and addresses other arguments against Hillary Clinton being considered right-wing.
By: Curtis Miller's Personal Website The article uses DW NOMINATE scores from VoteView to look at Clinton's ideological leaning in the Senate while she was the junior senator from New York. Based on her scores, Clinton is a mainstream Democrat, possibly even to the left even within her own party (including being to the left of Barack Obama), though she is to the right of Bernie Sanders (along with every other Senator). The article addresses arguments that Clinton is not a progressive, and also argues that Clinton's change of position on gay marriage does not represent a significant change since she has argued there should be legal protection for gay relationships since the early 2000s. Miller uses Gallup data to show that Clinton's position, as a public servant, was reasonable at the time given public attitudes on the topic. The analysis was done using R. R code is provided explaining the data used and also showing how to create the graphics featured in the article. The article was released 9:00 AM MDT and is available at https://ntguardian.wordpress.com/? End
