OAKTON, Va. - Oct. 24, 2016 - PRLog -- The Arts Council of Fairfax County recently announced that Mosaic Harmony, an award winning, interfaith, multicultural choir, based in Oakton, Virginia was awarded an operational support grant for the 2016-2017 season. Operating support grants provide funds for the basic operation of arts organizations in Fairfax County in recognition of the valuable programs and services they provide to County residents. The Operating grant also contributes to the stability of Mosaic Harmony.

The grant funding will enable Mosaic Harmony to continue its mission of providing service through song not only in Fairfax County, but also throughout the entire Washington metropolitan area. In 2015, the choir was awarded a project grant which they used to produce a diversity concert and CD project with three other groups in the area, The concept of creating the very diverse choir program was begun over a year ago by Mosaic Harmony, with the support of the Arts Council, to participate in their project grant program for Fiscal Year 2016.  "The search to find three diverse choirs to sing with us was no easy feat," noted Nikki Barnett Harrell, current Mosaic Harmony Board President. "In the end, the three choirs, Olam Tikvah (Hebrew), Ketzal (Spanish) and Nova Church (Japanese/Korean) agreed to collaborate with us and we were thrilled with the outcome of the CD and the concert that was held in June of this year"  Olam Tikvah and Nova Church are both located in Fairfax County, and Ketzal is based in Arlington County.

Barnett Harrell went on to note, "we are so excited about receiving the operational grant for the fifth consecutive year and then being able to participate in projects with the InterFaith Council of Metropolitan Washington, we have scheduled performances in 2017 at Washington Hospital Center, Holy Cross Hospital and we are participating in the International Festival of Brotherhood and Peace in Rome Italy in March 2017. This gift is the icing on the cake for us and we are so appreciative of the wonderful opportunity provided by the Arts Council of Fairfax County to assist us in furthering our mission to unify the world one song at a time."

Mosaic Harmony has recorded three previous CDs and performed in the Washington DC metropolitan area for the past twenty-two years in a variety of locations from the Millennium Stage at the Kennedy Center, the Pentagon, Washington Hospital Center, Northern Virginia Mental Health hospital and many others.  The choir rehearses every other Tuesday night in Oakton, Virginia and began their 23rd season on September 6, 2016, they welcome the community to stop in for a visit or to join them at any time throughout their season.  For more information on the choir, their history and performance schedule and to hear samples from their CDs, visit their site, www.mosaicharmony.org
