Most Anticipated Games To Release For The Holidays - A Gamers Gift Guide from Top10Tech
The first half or so of 2016 has already delivered a fair share of memorable video games, but everyone knows that the holidays are when things get totally crazy.
Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare – XboxOne/PS4/
Release Date: 11/4
Despite the fact that the number of dislikes on the game's official release trailer far outnumbers the number of likes, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare is still a highly anticipated game.
Fully embracing the full sci-fi universe, Infinite Warfare features outer space shootouts and starships. The game comes with an HD-updated version of Modern Warfare. This includes the campaign, and 10 of the original maps, as well as a graphic overhaul.
Dishonored 2 – XboxOne/PS4/
Release Date: 11/11
Bethesda has always used November to release some of its biggest games. Last year was Fallout 4's turn. This 2016, the stage has been set for the return of Corvo and Princess Emily, now all grown up, in Dishonored 2.
With a new city to roam, and new abilities, Dishonored 2 is a highly anticipated sequel that's shaping up to deliver on the hype.
Watch Dogs 2 – XboxOne/PS4/
Release Date: 11/15
Despite a series of lackluster releases starting with Watch Dogs in 2014, Ubisoft hasn't given up. Although, they have taken a step backward, especially regarding the Assassin's Creed franchise.
While fans of Assassins will be disappointed that there won't be an Assassin's Creed game this 2016, Ubisoft will release Watch Dogs 2.
Showcased at E3 2016, Watch Dogs 2 comes with a new protagonist, a new setting and more gadgets. It promises to be much better than its much maligned predecessor.
Pokémon Sun and Moon – 3DS
Release Date: 11/23
Pokémon games have almost always been received well throughout the world. Pokémon Sun and Moon are no exception. Set to come to the 3Ds in November, the game's newest iteration comes with a slew of new features, including the 7th generation of Pokémon, new legendaries, starter Pokémon and even a new Battle Royal mode where up to four trainers can battle at once.
Final Fantasy XV – PS4/XboxOne
Release Date: 11/29
It's been a while since a game from this once-legendary RPG series was as hyped and as anticipated as Final Fantasy XV. And, from what we've seen so far, it surely seems to aim to meet, if not exceed expectations.
The game is beautifully rendered, thanks to the power of today's consoles. The story about warring nations and powerful beings isn't too shabby either. Its gameplay includes some of the biggest boss battles in recent years, and four of the coolest dudes on a road trip.
Between its open-world adventure and action-oriented real-time combat, Final Fantasy XV will be special.
The Last Guardian – PS4
Release Date: 12/6
Released by the same people behind one of the best games of all time in Shadow of the Colossus, The Last Guardian is finally set to release. Finally, because it was first announced seven years ago and have been on hiatus until last year.
The Last Guardian will hit store shelves by December 6, 2016. As disappointing as the wait has been, the game could end up being worth it if we're going with just how many reviewers raved about and praised the game.
Dead Rising 4 – XboxOne/PC
Release Date: 12/6
Frank West returns in one of the goriest and most popular zombie game franchises of all time in Dead Rising 4. It has all the features that made the franchise famous, along with new ones such as new zombie classes, EXO suits and 4-player co-op multiplayer.
Explore, scavenge and fight in this open world sandbox that will be on top of any gamer's Christmas wish list.
Cuphead – XboxOne/PC
Release Date: TBD
More cartoon than video game, at least aesthetically, this side-scrolling indie captures the visual style of 20th century animated short films and puts them to good use in a game whose story revolves around a man with a coffee cup for a head.
As absurd as that may sound, Cuphead has shown through its trailers that how the protagonist looks is of no concern. This is because gamers will be too busy focusing on the game, which is set to become one of the prettiest 2D games ever. But, it's not just pure eye candy, as the game also features unique play mechanics and boss showdowns.
Initially set to release back in 2015, the developers have stated that their decision to delay the release to 2016 was all so they could make the "best game possible".
Steep – PS4/XboxOne/
Release Date: December
Ubisoft has taken a step back from action games to focus on Steep, a winter sports game set to release this winter of 2016. Judging by how it looks, it seems that Ubisoft has spared no expense in making the game look so pretty.
Allowing players to snowboard, use skis, wingsuits and paragliders at any time, Steep encourages players to explore its massive mountains however they see fit.
Featuring an all new experience, Steep is a hugely promising release that could end up being the start of a new AAA franchise should it succeed.
Lawbreakers – PC
Release Date: TBD
Hero-based shooters are all the craze these days, with Overwatch firmly being on the lead. Although, if it turns out well, LawBreakers could be a close second real soon.
LawBreakers is a team-based affair, for sure. But, it's also built more like a classic arena shooter, like Quake III Arena and Unreal Tournament. Pair that with fast-paced, aggressive combat and gameplay that revolves around zero gravity, and you get a recipe for wanton mayhem.
